One Saturday we went to school for our trophies. We got in the hall and then my teams names was called up”Suns” Art said. We all stood up and walked forward to get our trophies. Art called my name “OttLau” for the most improved player. Once I got my trophy there were cheers, lots and lots.
The next Saturday we had to go to church to have another trophy, a really big one. We got called up and we got a BIG trophy. Once we got our trophy we got our photo taken.
Here are our thoughts on thinking, which we have been discussing with Room 8 and 9. We are learning a lot about thinking and how to think, and how our brains work.
This is our first pod-cast of our knowledge in maths. We are learning about fractions so the first thing we looked at is half. We found half of many different groups, shapes and objects. This tells how we found half. We also know we can use sharing (divided by) for finding halves.
On Friday the 16th of October 2009 my family, I and the lambs went to CALF CLUB DAY!!!!!!
Our lambs competed against other lambs. Our first event was ‘call, follow and run’ (most obvious pet). It was my turn so I called Georgie she came to me then she had to follow me. Then I had to run and she had to run behind me. Then I called her while I ran and she followed my footsteps. At the and of this event the judge called my name. I came 1st!!! In my head I said ‘YYYEEESSS!!!’ and she gave me my red ribbon. Then the judge said “Can you stay around here because you have to compete in the championship round.” I was soooooo NERVOUS then Kylee came 1st in her grade too and she was in the championship round with me. The judge said “could you two girls please come here.” So Kylee and I went up and did ‘call, follow and run’ again. After we both did that the judges deliberated. After that the judge came up to me and said ‘WELL DONE JAMIE! You are the champion of champions for ‘most obvious pet.’’ Kylee was reserve champion. It was time to do ‘leading’. Georgie and me did not win anything in this event because Georgie stopped in the corner of the pen for 1 or 2 minutes. (That was annoying!) The final event was ‘rearing’ where you had to tell information about your lamb. It came to my turn and the judge came up to me and asked me some questions like ‘what breed is your lamb? What are the poisonous plants? Has it been inoculated? How much do you feed it? How many times a day do you feed your lamb?’ I could answer all these questions easily! Then they check the cleanliness of your lamb. At the end the judge said ‘you all did very well but 1st place goes to Jamie Nobilo!’ (Yay! Another red ribbon!). At prize giving my name was called out – for Champion of Champions in Most Obvious Pet. My prize was a big trophy, a small trophy to keep and a goody bag.
To end our recycling unit we all read a journal story called ‘These Boots are Made for Walkin”. It was about a group of kids who used recycled materials to design shoes. We decided to make some ourselves. We planned our theme, how we would make them and what we would need to make them. Then we set to making them. We had a recycled shoe day where most of us finished our shoes. Some of us used boxes, some bottles, papier mache, plastic…then Mrs T gave us an extra challenge, we had to try to make them waterproof. PolZoe used waterproof material to make hers waterproof, OswTay used plastic bags, some of us used bottles on the base of our shoes. In the last week of term we had a parade with Room 8 and 9 in the library to show off our fabulous, creative walking shoes!
MilCoo’s rabbit Coco had babies – 3 of them! They are only 5 days old , and were a surprise! MilCoo and his mum have done some research into rabbits. They found out that usually they have between 7-11 babies in a litter, so this is a very small litter. Rabbits usually have babies every 28-30 days. Look closely and you can see a baby – isn’t it cute! Coco is a beautiful rabbit. MilCoo will show us more pictures as the babies grow, we will update the blog with them – keep watching.
Talk Like a Pirate Day was celebrated at the end of term 3 by the middle syndicate. So many of us dressed up for the day, including the teachers! Congratulations to HopBia, MilCoo and CroSha for winning the ‘most creative costume’ award for R7. Mrs T thinks that everyone looked AWESOME – such terrifically terrible, tough pirates!
