So…what happened Long Long Ago?

We have been etherpadding with Room 13. We have come up with some great questions for our thinking and research, these are our questions and thoughts on day 2 of the term…

RosJas said does it include the ice age, because it should, it came after the dinosaurs. His big question is how did animals live in the ice age, we know about the sabertooth tiger and the mammoth…any ideas? LawKea wonders if they hibernated

R13 thinks there were Sloths in the Ice Age…Wow – HarSam and RosJas say yes Mrs T didnt know that

R13 wants to know how people know what dinosaurs look like when we weren’t around when they were? HarSam says people started digging and found bones and put them together, LawKea challenged that he said, but how did they know they were dinosaurs?

R13 – how big were dinosaur eggs? MakDay remembers from our talk yesterday that some are as big as a rugby ball

GraLuk is asking how did dinosaurs clean themselves? (like cats clean themselves today!!) Mrs T would like to know this too!!

How do lizards clean themselves today?

CoxJar- is a tuatara a dinosaur? If it is how can we say they are extinct

KovJay- could the dinosaurs climb trees?

Mr F- I have seen a dinosaur with grabby toes that climbed trees. R7 are keen to see this…

HenDio- did the dinosaurs split the earth?

R13- How did the dinosaurs get extinct? GraLuk says he saw a movie about the dinosaurs and apparently a meteor hit the earth and they extinct the dinosaurs. KelTon adds to this, when the meteor hit earth all the volcanoes exploded too. Lava and ash covered the earth. So all the plants and the herbivores died because they had nothing to eat, so then the carnivores died. A herbivore is a plant eater. A carnivore is a meat eater

R13- were cave men around at the time dinosaurs were?

SmiArl thinks that Adam and Eve were the first people and they saw the dinosaurs and they passed on stories through the generations – this is a bit like maori myths

R13- What was the oldest type of dinosaur that ever lived? CoxJar- what was the first dinoaurs and how long ago did it appear?

SimEmi- how big can a T-Rex get?

R13- do T Rex eat people?

LawKea says how could they eat people because people werent around

R13- what is the most deadly dinosaur?

R13-How did the meteors get to earth? Are ther still meteors in space? Can they hit the earth again?

R13- How did the dinosaurs start? How did they start living? Where did they come from

JieOwe says first the meteor hit earth. Bacteria grew from space on earth and it evolved into different living things

PhiHol says some people believe that crocs and alligators are dinosaurs too? Mrs T asks so are dinosaurs reptiles?

AllKel asks how big is the longest neck on a dinosaurs

R13-What were the first kinds of dinosaurs?

R13 also asks aren’t lizards and tuatara like dinosaurs?

McMKyp- do dinosuars have hairs on their bodies?

R13 says some of the dinosaurs had feathers.

DhiHar- are turtles dinosaurs?

KleCas are dinosaurs tails dangerous too?

R13 says some of them have sharp tails or club tails like the ankylosaurus.

SimEmi- how many dinosaurs lived under water?

R13 thinks about 35 dinos lived in the water.

R13- when did this all happen? How long ago?

R13- how sharp are dinosaurs (T Rex) teeth?

R13- how tall are the dinosaurs that have the long necks? WetLuk says their necks were three storeys high

KovJay- did they live under ground?

MosJos- did raptorex hunt in big packs and were they the smallest dinos, were there any snake-like dinosaurs?

YaoHen- how many species are there?

R13- what were the most harmless dinosaurs? Jared says if the tuatara is included as a dinosaur it is probably the tuatara

R13- how do dinosaur bones turn into fossils?

HenDio- how many years were the dinosaurs on earth?

R13- how come the dinosaur bones didn’t rot away?

R13- where in the world did the dinosaurs live?

R13- how did the egg eating dinosaurs fit the eggs in their mouths?

R13- how big was a dinosaur’s brain?

DruSar- how did the person who found the dinosaurs know where they were because the place was all green? Also how did the earth turn green because it was all brown

R13- If scietists can use blood to make another living thing could they use dinosaur fossils to make new dinosaurs?

SimEmi- do baby dinosaurs live in logs

HenDio- were snakes around when dinosaurs were around?

KovJay- were they very smart? KleCas did the dinosaurs have brains?

R13- Can dinosaurs eat other dinosaurs?

ShaBri if other dinosaurs werent around would meat eaters have to eat plants or just die?

If this is our thinking before we embark on our inquiry…who knows where we will end up. Goo Room 7 and 13.

PRODUCTION ROCKS!

Our production this year was Tama Tu Tama Ora – it was based on the story of Ranginui and Papatuanuku and their son Tane Mahuta and his tree that could not be cut down. We had a blast. We practised, practised, practised. Some of us were playing Ti Rakau sticks, Whaea Jeanne taught us a rhythm.

Some of us were Night and Day. We made amazing masks, sang and moved to the music. Our t-shirts had blinged out t-shirts with gold stars – stunning!

Some of us were in the Year 4 band. Everytime the tree got cut down we made the chopping sound effects! We played the instruments we made by ourselves…

We even had two people from room 7 who were in the core cast. RosJas was Tumatauenga the Guardian of Man and War, awesome performance. And HenDio was the Monarch Butterly – she looked beautiful.

Mrs T was on the committee, she loved it and worked hard!!

We performed so hard we made some damage!!!

Mrs T thinks we are all super stars.

2010 Dress Ups and FUN FUN FUN

We have had a fun year so far. In term 1 we all went to Otorohanga to see Kiwianatown for our Kiwiana focus. We went with our whole community – Te Mangaroa. Here are some of us eating our ice creams…yum! And eating our GIANT jaffas, we even met Hiwi the Kiwi. Congrats OrmDes and DruSar who were our best dressed on our follow-up dress up Kiwiana Day.

In term 2 we did heaps of music. We even got be DJs for a day…here are some of us playing our tunes in the decks and the theramin. We also made our own instruments…what fun we had.

In term 3 room 7 dressed up as their favourite characters for book week. Mrs T even came as Bad Jelly the witch. Everyone looked great.

We read, experienced and enjoyed ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak

We also SCAMPERed kiwiana icons and created fab art

We learnt all about ANZAC day – yummy biscuits.

What an awesome, busy year we have had so far.

Soccer Trophies

One Saturday we went to school for our trophies. We got in the hall and then my teams names was called up”Suns” Art said. We all stood up and walked forward to get our trophies. Art called my name “OttLau” for the most improved player. Once I got my trophy there were cheers, lots and lots.

The next Saturday we had to go to church to have another trophy, a really big one. We got called up and we got a BIG trophy. Once we got our trophy we got our photo taken.

Look at how big the baby is getting now and he is covered in fur too.
The rabbits are 3 times bigger now than when they were born.

They are starting to move a lot and Coco their mum is taking
the fur off the top of the bed so they can get used to the light.

BruLev brought all his sports medals and trophies in from Rugby and Soccer to show us. He really loves his sports, and what a successful player too!

Our knowledge of half

This is our first pod-cast of our knowledge in maths. We are learning about fractions so the first thing we looked at is half. We found half of many different groups, shapes and objects. This tells how we found half. We also know we can use sharing (divided by) for finding halves.

The Calf Club Champion!

On Friday the 16^th of October 2009 my family, I and the lambs went to CALF CLUB DAY!!!!!!

Our lambs competed against other lambs. Our first event was ‘call, follow and run’ (most obvious pet). It was my turn so I called Georgie she came to me then she had to follow me. Then I had to run and she had to run behind me. Then I called her while I ran and she followed my footsteps. At the and of this event the judge called my name. I came 1^st!!! In my head I said ‘YYYEEESSS!!!’ and she gave me my red ribbon. Then the judge said “Can you stay around here because you have to compete in the championship round.” I was soooooo NERVOUS then Kylee came 1^st in her grade too and she was in the championship round with me. The judge said “could you two girls please come here.” So Kylee and I went up and did ‘call, follow and run’ again. After we both did that the judges deliberated. After that the judge came up to me and said ‘WELL DONE JAMIE! You are the champion of champions for ‘most obvious pet.’’ Kylee was reserve champion. It was time to do ‘leading’. Georgie and me did not win anything in this event because Georgie stopped in the corner of the pen for 1 or 2 minutes. (That was annoying!) The final event was ‘rearing’ where you had to tell information about your lamb. It came to my turn and the judge came up to me and asked me some questions like ‘what breed is your lamb? What are the poisonous plants? Has it been inoculated? How much do you feed it? How many times a day do you feed your lamb?’ I could answer all these questions easily! Then they check the cleanliness of your lamb. At the end the judge said ‘you all did very well but 1^st place goes to Jamie Nobilo!’ (Yay! Another red ribbon!). At prize giving my name was called out – for Champion of Champions in Most Obvious Pet. My prize was a big trophy, a small trophy to keep and a goody bag.

I had an AWESOME day!!!!!!
